North Shore Boardriders - Junior Development Program 2026
A structured six-month pathway designed to develop junior surfers through coaching, mentorship and team-based competition — culminating in a High Performance Camp experience.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The North Shore Boardriders Junior Development Program brings together emerging and experienced junior surfers into mixed squads for coaching and team competition.
Across six months, surfers will participate in dedicated coaching sessions to improve individual surfing, develop competition strategies, and compete in tag team heats integrated into selected club rounds.
The program is designed to:
Build skills and confidence
Encourage mentorship between age groups
Introduce team-based competition tactics
Strengthen club culture
Provide a clear development pathway
WHO IT’S FOR
The program is open to:
North Shore Boardriders junior members under the age of 18 years
Mixed ability levels
Surfers looking to improve individual and competition skills
Juniors interested in team surfing
Surfers committed to development and participation
Squads will be selected to ensure balanced teams and a strong mentorship environment.
HOW IT WORKS
• We will select mixed squads (Two general squads for Tuesday and Thursday Training with teams to be selected from within the squads for Tag Team heats at our Club Rounds)
• Coaching sessions twice per month - (One per squad)
• Tuesday and Thursday afternoon options available
• Tag Team heats within Club Rounds
• Cumulative points championship from the heats held at the Club Rounds
• Double points in the final round
• Junior Development Team Champions crowned
• Program culminates in High Performance Camp (Fundraising will be required to achieve this)

Teams will compete in Tag Team heats held within selected club rounds.

This format encourages teamwork, strategy and real competition experience.
HIGH PERFORMANCE CAMP GOAL
The program culminates in a High Performance Camp experience at the HPC which will require fundraising and participation and the numbers may be limited with selection criteria.
Participation in the Junior Development Program includes involvement in fundraising initiatives to help support this camp, creating ownership and rewarding commitment throughout the program.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
To assist with scheduling and squad balance, we are collecting Expressions of Interest.
The form allows juniors to:
Select preferred training day (Tuesday or Thursday)
Provide Age and Division
Register commitment to the program
Team selections will then be configured to create evenly matched squads for the Tag Team Heats.
"Expressions of interest do not guarantee placement. Squad selection will be based on creating balanced teams and ensuring the best development environment for all participants.
Parent Consent & Child Safety
Participation in the Junior Development Program will require completion of a Parent/Guardian Consent Form prior to the first coaching session.
This will include:

Emergency contact details
Medical considerations (if any)
Media consent (optional)
Acknowledgement of program guidelines
Acceptance of club child safety requirements
